Fall Classic Game 7 Captures 51 Million Viewers Across the United States, Canada and Japanese Regions.

The exciting 11-inning matchup that saw the Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a combined 51 million viewers across the United States, Canada, and Japan territories. MLB stated this is the highest-rated World Series finale since the 1991 contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game secured 27.33 million viewers on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It also is the most-watched World Series game after the 2017 final game involving the Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This marks a 16% increase compared to the previous Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked fourth, Game 4 was 7th, the fifth game was 8th, and Game 3 finished in 13th position.

International Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game averaged 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English broadcast in the country since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it attracted 12M. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a single run in six frames – averaged over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a single network in the country.

Overall Totals and Trends

The entire seven-match series averaged 15.71M audience members on Fox, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership increases for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the complete US average was 16.1 million. The total World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded 8.09 million watchers, an eight percent rise compared to the previous year and the network’s best postseason ratings after 2017.

Major League Baseball announced that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen different languages.
