The Film 'Together' Can Be Streamed, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Romantic Bond.

We present a dare for long-term couples who appreciate the horror genre: Sit down with your significant other and stream Together. The independent film success of 2025 just made its launch on a streaming platform on Hulu. On the surface, it may seem like typical physical horror, but inside Together exists a deep meditation about the ways we decide to love each other.

A Directorial Debut Delving into Relationship Dynamics

Together marks the introductory feature for director Michael Shanks. It features the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, partners that have remained a couple for ten years. Having wed in actuality in 2017, the two stars bring a unique chemistry to their roles, masterfully depicting both the strengths and weaknesses of a long-term relationship.

The story commences when the couple relocate from the big city to the rural area for professional reasons. A somewhat stereotypical story element, admittedly, but that’s mostly where the conventions end. Together evolves into as much a deep dive into the psyche of the partnership as it is a film about physical terror.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While walking near their new home, a tempest descends, and Millie and Tim tumble into an subterranean cavern. After being trapped overnight there and eventually escaping, a strange force takes hold of the couple. This force creates a supernatural closeness between them that goes far beyond typical partnership.

The entire film is a gradually intensifying fright fest, blending elements of dreamlike terrors, gross (but tastefully done) physical transformations, and surprisingly comedic dialogue (sometimes in the middle of something disturbing). The director weaves these elements together expertly and delivers them in a gradually swelling aura of dread.

Complex Characterizations

A large part of Together is only the performances of its stars, and they skillfully illustrate manifold depths to the characters’ relationship. Her self-assurance and sense of connection is waning due to a distance. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his reluctance to chase only his floundering music career gradually emerges.

In contrast, Tim's character senses confinement and isolated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve left the city and far away from his social circle. He dreads the idea of utterly sacrificing his personal autonomy in Millie. This fear is intensified by the reality he can’t drive and relies on Millie for transportation.

Shanks’ smartest move is that he never makes one partner or the other the obvious villain.

Tim and Millie confront the type of challenges that come with long-term unions over a long period. Deep down, they continue to care for one another. They still laugh together, comfort one another, and open up at times. But below this facade, there’s an unavoidable undercurrent of doubt about their relationship.

Allegory and Meaning

While the supernatural forces in Together represent these anxieties of unhealthy attachment and totally devoting oneself to a partner, the symbolism avoids being clumsy or pretentious. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments offer a brilliant analogue to the relationship narrative. Both the horror and the drama serve the other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s ending, which won’t be spoiled here, has created disagreement on the story's concluding statement about unhealthy partnerships. Reports indicate that single viewers have understood the narrative as a strong argument for staying single. Conversely, some couples who were in conflict found that the film actually helped them make up.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own reaction could function as a telling indicator of how you view relationships. Will the ending sow a sense of discomfort and fear, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you see yourself in one of the characters and scream at your TV, or simply look at your significant other and utter, “I’d do that for you”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an test you can embark on right now.

Together is streaming on Hulu at present.
